Dear Friend,

Welcome to the first edition of the Audubon Maryland-DC E-newsletter. In an effort to increase outreach to chapters, members and others interested in Audubon, each month we will send an e-newsletter which will include highlights of the Audubon centers, chapters and programs. This month we are featuring our Pickering Creek Audubon Center in Easton, MD. Pickering is open to the public for hiking and nature walks from dawn til dusk 365 days a year. To learn more visit www.pickeringcreek.org

We hope you enjoy our E-newsletter, however if you would like to be removed from this list, please click here  or email sscallion@audubon.org with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line.

Happy Birding!

Pickering Creek Celebrates National Public Lands Day

On Sunday, September 21, Pickering Creek Audubon Center staff and volunteers got their hands dirty as part of the TogetherGreen National Public Lands Day.  The TogetherGreen initiative was started in March 2008 and is an innovative Audubon program funded by Toyota that aims to inspire people everywhere to improve the health of the environment.  National Public Lands Day commemorates the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps and provided the perfect opportunity for Pickering Creek and the community to embrace the TogetherGreen initiative.

This year's TogetherGreen National Public Lands Day at Pickering Creek was a success.  Volunteers at Pickering Creek worked on trails, improved the Imagination Garden, removed invasive plants, and winterized the Gilbert Byron House.  In appreciation for the time and effort put in by the volunteers, Pickering Creek staff provided a local foods lunch including foods purchased at the Easton Farmer's market and the Amish market, as well as herbs picked from the Chesapeake Bay Herb Society's garden at Pickering Creek.

Pickering Creek offers everyone the opportunity to get outside and celebrate the nation's public lands.  Hikers, bird watchers, families, and gardeners can enjoy the trails and garden.  History and literature enthusiasts can take pleasure in learning about Gilbert Byron.  Adventure lovers can explore Pickering Creek by participating in one of the many environmental and outdoor recreation public programs.
