CHALLENGE COURSE
The Pickering Creek Challenge Course offers excitement and adventure as your group overcomes physically and intellectually demanding situations together. The Challenge Course is a series of activities that promote teambuilding and problem-solving skills.  A series of obstacles called “elements” challenge the group to work together as a team in developing a solution.  While the obstacles are perceived to be “physically” challenging, any person willing to participate can do so through the cooperative efforts of the group. Your group will conquer the elements of our Challenge Course and learn about themselves and their relationships to others.  A certified course facilitator monitors your group’s interactions so that behaviors and reactions can be discussed afterwards.

Pickering Creek’s Challenge Course offers Portable Elements that can be brought to your location and a permanent Low Ropes Course. Each element emphasizes different group characteristics such as communication, cooperation, leadership, trust, and self-confidence.  The Pickering Creek staff can also develop programs according to a group’s specific needs.

 School Groups
School Groups are welcome to come out to Pickering Creek for a challenge course experience, or we can come to you.  Unlike many challenge course operators, Pickering Creek can bring the Challenge Course right to your classroom.  Our curriculum consists of over 50 portable games, initiatives, challenges and 14 permanent elements.  Groups can visit Pickering Creek and have an exhilarating, educational experience on our Low Ropes Course with our trained staff.  Many teachers have found that their group benefits from having an introductory in-school experience before an intensive field trip.  Your Challenge Course experience can also be supplemented with many of Pickering Creek’s other educational programs such as canoeing, orienteering, forest ecology or Chesapeake Bay ecology.

Corporate Groups
Challenge Course exercises are gaining a foothold on corporate America.  Adventures, such as the Low Ropes Course, teach the value of a support system in the workplace.   Pickering Creek can tailor a teambuilding experience to your group’s needs with special focus on communication, problem solving skills and leadership issues. Spend a morning, afternoon or the entire day out of the office for team building, clientcultivation or just a fun day at Pickering Creek.  We’ll provide the setting where amazing things can happen when people get to know each other in a different environment.

Additional Programs
Enhance your out of office experience with a forest hike, birding lecture, or canoe trip on Pickering Creek.  Join our naturalists for a guided hike through our mature forest and along Pickering Creek.  You may catch a glimpse of the endangered Delmarva Fox Squirrel, Wood Ducks, Pilleated Woodpeckers and more.  A short birding lecture can introduce your group to our feathered friends.  Pickering Creek is home to more than 150 bird species so be sure to bring your binoculars.  A guided morning or afternoon paddle on Pickering Creek can also be added to your Challenge Course program.  Pickering Creek is just around the corner from Wye Island on the historic Wye River.
